We could say, like Gerald Durrell, that it’s my family and other animals. There are 7 siblings, three in-laws and a handful of nephews and nieces. Our project is to turn our farm into a farm school. What we have to offer is a very specific way of looking at the world and the people in it: as being a family. A family way of enjoying, caring, uniting and cooperating. We want our little community to broaden out, to support all those people who are caring for others. What our family has achieved is that in spite of everything we always end up together. We have some great teachers – our parents, with the project that they set up in partnership over 60 years ago. After the experience of the pandemic months, of learning how much we all need one another, we feel that our project has taken on a new meaning.
Milagro is our mother. She has been confined to bed for over 25 years. What seven very active children didn’t manage to do, multiple sclerosis did in less than two years. Throughout all this time, our father has been at her side. “D’you see how beautiful your mother’s looking today?”
This is how they spend one day after another: together, playing jokes, doing what they have done all their lives: caring for each other.
The name Milagro means “miracle”. She has been bonding and taking care of the whole family for over 60 years. In the first stage of her life, she did it by taking care of everyone, and now she does it by letting herself be taken care of.
Thanks to her, we have discovered that illness, dependency and need can be a light for the family, not darkness.
To help individuals and families who, like us, have a sick or dependent person at home, either temporary or chronic. To create a community of support and help find resources to enable them to take care of their loved ones.
Awareness-raising and sensitizing about the reality of dependency. Being a reference-point in the culture of care. Helping caregivers to stay well, enjoy people, and care for themselves in order to care for others.
Our values have names: Milagro, Diego, Grandfather Miguel, …
What have we learned in our house? To take care of personal relationships, to work tenaciously to care for those we love, to create a safe environment. And to enjoy everything and enjoy being together.
To make the reality of dependency more visible through our own experience and that of thousands of others who, like us, have a sick person at home. Especially to give visibility to chronic diseases like multiple sclerosis.
To create a support network, a community where everyone can seek advice, share experiences, or ask questions; ask for human support, financial support, or guidance through the bureaucracy.
To develop and disseminate "training pills" aimed at care for the caregiver and the best care for their sick.
To organize events where we meet and share. And above all, where you can have fun and learn. Part of the money raised will be spent on setting up and organizing the Association, and part of it will be invested in organizing upcoming events, in "training pills" and in the creation of a scholarship fund.
We have a secret... but we’ll tell you right away.
